The "First Class" FAQ
-
Do I need a uniform (Gi) to start?
"No. For your first trial class, simply wear comfortable workout clothes (T-shirt and track pants/shorts). We believe the spirit of the student is more important than the uniform. Once you or your child decide to commit to the path of Kyokushin, we will provide an official Gi to signify your membership in our global community."
-
Is it safe for beginners?
"Safety and respect are the foundations of our dojo. Whether you are 6 or 60, we prioritize controlled technique and proper form. Beginners follow a structured curriculum that focuses on 'Kihon' (basics) and conditioning before moving into more advanced applications. You will be challenged, but always in a supervised, professional environment."
-
What if I am not in 'fighting shape'?
"You don't get in shape to start Kyokushin; you start Kyokushin to get in shape. Our classes are designed to build functional strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance from the ground up. Shihan Steve and our instructors meet every student at their current physical level—whether you are an athlete or haven't stepped into a gym in years."
-
Is there a minimum or maximum age?
"Kyokushin is for everyone. We offer specialized classes for children (starting at age 6) that focus on discipline and coordination, as well as adult classes that emphasize peak conditioning and traditional Japanese martial arts. It is never too early to start, and it is never too late to surpass your limits."
