Earned, Not Given: Our Barrie Junior Karate Team Heads to the 2026 Nakamura Cup in Montreal

Five junior competitors from Contact Kicks Martial Arts (CKMA) in Barrie, Ontario will travel to Montreal on November 14, 2026 to compete at the Nakamura Cup, one of the largest and most respected tournaments in North America. They are members of our Kyokushin Karate junior competition team, and they earned their spots through steady effort, good attendance, and the right attitude.

Last night at our Barrie dojo, the team brought their trophies and medals to class. The floor was lined with them. But what mattered most that evening wasn't the hardware. It was the conversation afterward, when the kids sat down with the rest of the class and talked openly about what it takes to step onto a tournament mat. They shared the nerves, the hard parts, and the work that happens long before a referee calls start.

Is Competition Required at Contact Kicks Martial Arts?

No. Nobody has to compete at CKMA. We don't push students toward tournaments to collect trophies for the school. Facing another trained martial artist is a serious thing, and a spot on our competition team has to be earned through consistent effort, attendance, and attitude.

We only take students who want the challenge for themselves and are ready to do the hard conditioning and technical prep that comes with it.

Who Is on the CKMA Barrie Junior Competition Team?

The team has five students with a wide range of experience. Robert is twelve and has been competing for over seven years, and he brings real poise and leadership to the group. Our youngest competitor, Alexa, is only eight and already has three years of tournaments behind her.

Why Do Kids Compete in Kyokushin Karate?

For us, the point of competition has never been the plastic and metal. It's character. The tournament floor is a good place to teach kids something true about life: if you want to get good at anything that matters, you pick a clear goal, commit to it without shortcuts, and do the work.

When these five students step onto the floor, every punch, kick, and block carries the effort of our whole dojo. We're not a big franchise school. We're a small, focused team, and that works for us.

What Is the 2026 Nakamura Cup?

The Nakamura Cup is a major karate tournament held in Montreal, and the 2026 event takes place on November 14. Competitors come from across the continent, which makes it a real test of skill, conditioning, and heart for our juniors.

We don't know yet how the scoreboard will read, but we already know what matters most. Win or lose, they'll go in prepared, stand tall, and represent Contact Kicks Martial Arts and our Barrie community with discipline and respect.

Well done, Team CKMA. Let's get back to work.
