2025 Year in Review: Growth, Excellence, and the WKB Canada Spirit
As we step into 2026, we want to take a moment to reflect on an incredible year at Contact Kicks Martial Arts. From international competition stages to significant belt promotions, 2025 was a defining year for our dojo. It is the hard work of our students and the "Osu" spirit of our community that makes this journey possible.
Strengthening Our Roots: WKB Canada & World Kyokushin Budokai
One of our most significant milestones this year was solidifying our path with the World Kyokushin Budokai (WKB). Serving as the WKB Branch Chief for Ontario, it is an honor to represent this organization in Canada.
Through our affiliation with Kancho Pedro Roiz, our students are connected to an international community of excellence. This ensures that the training at our Barrie and Mississauga locations remains rooted in the most authentic and rigorous Kyokushin principles.
Championship Results: A Powerhouse in North American Kyokushin
Our competition team showed incredible resolve this year, bringing back amazing results from the two most prestigious Kyokushin events in North America:
The Senshi Gold Cup (March - Montreal, QC): Our team returned with a collection of trophies, proving their technical skill and heart.
The Nakamura Cup (November - Montreal, QC): Another successful campaign where our athletes were recognized for their grit and spirit.
Through these victories, our dojo is now firmly established as a powerhouse in the North American martial arts scene.
New Leadership: Summer Camp & Black Belt Promotions
Progress in Kyokushin is measured by persistence. At our annual Summer Camp, we were proud to witness the promotion of two new Black Belts: Senpai Chris and Senpai Kiki.
With these promotions, our Mississauga dojo now has two additional high-level instructors ready to mentor our students and uphold our standards of quality instruction.
Advanced Training and Seminars
To ensure our students are well-rounded martial artists, we hosted two major learning events this year:
Fighting Seminar with Senpai Sergei Fedorov: Focusing on high-level Kumite tactics.
Kickboxing and BJJ Seminar: Bridging the gap between traditional striking and modern grappling to create more versatile martial artists.
Looking Ahead: What’s Coming in 2026
We are already planning a full calendar for the new year. Expect to see us back at the Gold Cup and Nakamura Cup, along with exclusive workshops designed to improve our dojos and our organization.
We will kick off the season with our traditional Kicks for the New Year event. Let’s start January with a strong spirit and make 2026 even bigger together!
A Message of Gratitude
Finally, we want to send our warmest best wishes to all our members and their families, our supporters, and all Kyokushin karateka around the world.
May the New Year bring you strength, health, and prosperity.
Osu!
Shihan Steve and Senpai Mici
